William M. Yancey Jr.
My Story
William was born on September 11th, 2006 at just 26 weeks and weighing 1 pound 14 ounces. Two days after he was born the doctor told us he probably wouldn't survive the week. He had several serious complications from being 14 weeks early. He had a Grade IV brain bleed which can leave babies with severe brain damage, Cerebral Palsy, and a list of other complications providing they even survive.
Everyday is a new challenge for all of us. William doesn’t just learn to do something we have to teach him EVERYTHING. William can not eat food that has sugar or gluten in it. Everything we buy is organic or gluten and sugar free. I can’t even begin to tell you what we spend on food to eat this way.
The last thing that is a struggle for us is our finances. We already had a million dollar baby. But his doctor bills, check ups, therapies, etc just keep adding on. When you have a preemie baby those things stay with you even though the baby gets bigger. You still have the therapies and things that you have to continue for him to get better.
To date he spent 92 days in the NICU, has been through 9 surgeries, 5 brain surgeries, 2 eye surgeries, a hernia repair and a central line in his chest. Today, he is just as beautiful as ever! He has mild cerebral palsy on his right side, which is called a right hemi. He has physical therapy, occupational therapy and vision therapy every day.
Billy & I prayed that God would give him a chance to fight and He has answered our prayers. William is still with us today thanks to prayer and having faith in our little miracle boy. We were told by his doctor and nurse that in all their years of experience William is their first to survive with the amount of complications he had.
